ORMUSA

ORMUSA, based in San Salvador, is a leading feminist, non-partisan, and non-religious non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the human rights of women in El Salvador. Founded during the 1980s civil war, ORMUSA has been instrumental in combating gender-based violence, advocating for women's economic and reproductive rights, and pushing for legal reforms, including the 2012 law that criminalized femicide.

El Salvador has one of the highest rates of femicide in the world, with 67% of women experiencing violence in their lifetime. Despite legal protections, impunity remains widespread, with 75% of femicide cases never prosecuted. ORMUSA continues to fight for justice by providing legal aid, psycho-social counseling, and running a hotline for marginalized women. They also conduct training on preventing gender-based violence and promote women's labor rights, particularly in maquiladora factories.

ORMUSA is part of national and regional networks working to end violence against women and promote gender equality. Empowering women and challenging the pervasive machismo in El Salvador is central to their mission. Support ORMUSA in their ongoing efforts to protect and empower Salvadoran women. Help with their vital work today.
